The Shores of ZDoom, or just “TSoZD” for short, is a work-in-progress modern reinterpretation of Doom’s classic second episode, The Shores of Hell.
Taking place inside the overgrown, demonically-infested Deimos base, these levels fuse high-tech and rusted base settings with surreal and gothic elements while reworking and elaborating upon the original episode 2 layouts to create a new, expanded experience.
Strong layout planning has been a major developmental focus. We’ve been working hard to naturally expand on the original designs, creating maps that are logically interconnected and easily navigable while retaining the explorable and open-ended nature of episode 2.
Visual design is also being pushed to the limits with distinct architecture, clean detail, smooth organics, and the most intense sector lighting ever to be attempted in the Doom engine.
As of this writing, I’ve contributed major work to two maps (Deimos Lab and Spawning Vats) and helped set the style for another (Deimos Anomaly). I’ve also assisted in gameplay and layout planning for other parts of the project, and done a significant amount of graphical work including the project’s logotype and a whole lot of textures. Oh, right, and I’m doing the soundtrack.
